July 8-19, 2010

Campbellsville Baptist Church youth and chaperones will be partnering with Project Evangelism at the Murlough House in Northern Ireland.  Project Evangelism works alongside local churches and evangelizes in areas not reached by them. The goal for the ministry is to lead others to faith in Christ, then encourage discipleship and placement of new converts into churches for training and spiritual growth.  The team will be working to do ministry in Downpatrick.  Please be in pray for the team and also those people they come in contact with in Ireland.  Check back for photos and information as the trip occurs.

The Parker Perspective..........

July 8th and 9th

Where should we start? Well I suppose we should start when we all came together at the same place at the same time. That time and place would be Thursday morning at 7 am at CBC.

7:00 am  We started by checking in as we arrived. We took our luggage to the scales to be sure none were over the 50 lb. limit. Then we had to show we had our passports so we could leave the country. Next on the list was figuring out how  to get our parents to let go, so we gave them the schedule for calling home.

7:30 am  Since this group is so responsible, everyone was on time and enjoying a donut much earlier than expected. Bro. Skip offered a departing prayer and off to the bus for a group picture. Even this went smoothly and quickly and before we knew it, we were loaded and ready to go.

7:45 am  Bus leaves. Dave gave us about 45 minutes to catch up w/ our seat mates.

8:30 am  Dave starts a devotion w/ the song To the Ends of the Earth. After the devotion we had an open mic where the students or adults could share anything about the upcoming trip. The students jumped at the chance to share w/ their peers and most everyone had some mic time.

9:15 – 11:30 am  Chilled as we traveled north on I-65.

11:30 am  We stopped at exit 140, just north of Indianapolis, for lunch. The bus parked and we had the option of eating lunch at either KFC, Steak n’ Shake or Arby’s.

12:30 pm  Back on the road again. Next stop, O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, IL.

3:00 pm  We pulled  up to the curb for departing flights at the International terminal. We quickly unloaded the bus, found our respective pieces of luggage and got in line to check our luggage and get our boarding passes.

4:15 pm  After all of us were checked in, we all met in the food court for a bite of supper prior to our departure.

5:00 pm  We ate pretty quickly and were now off to the great folks that work for TSA and Security. It actually wasn’t too bad.

5:45 pm  We arrived at the gate and started getting the stares. It was at this point that everyone around us realized that they would be sharing this 7 hour flight w/ this wonderful group.

6:15 pm  Boarded plane. There is so much more to add here, I don’t even know where to begin. We watched movies ,  listened to music, played games and talked for hours. We got to share two wonderful airline meals and some quality nap time. Oh, and we lost 5 hrs due to the time change.

7:10 am  Land in Dublin with very little sleep. Since we lost 5 hrs and didn’t sleep well on the plane, Thursday and Friday seemed like one really long day.  While we were waiting to depart the plane, a women that was on our flight commented on how well behaved our group had been both on the flight and while waiting in the airport.

8:30 am  After the longest walk to immigration and baggage claim came much confusion as to where we could find our  bus. Once we found it, we had to wait for another couple who was sharing our ride. We spent most of this time stretching our legs and playing ninja tag.

9:45 am  Left airport for Trinity College and “Book of Kells”

10:15 am  Walked/toured  thru the “Book of Kells” museum

11:00 am Split into smaller groups, walked around Dublin and ate lunch.

1:10 am  We left for Murlough House and enjoyed cat naps and beautiful Irish countryside.

3:30 am  Arrived at Murlough House

4:00 am  Met in Teaching block for biscuits (cookies) and learn about house rules and room assignments.  We were then cut loose to find our rooms and get settled in.

6:00 pm  Met for tea. That’s what the Irish call dinner. We had spaghetti and salad and no tea…

7:00-9:30 pm  Free time to go and explore our beautiful surroundings.

9:30-10:00 pm  Worship time

10:00-11:00 pm  More free time to prepare for bed.

11:00 pm  Lights out, and it couldn’t have come early enough for most of us
